ABOUT

For centuries, pearls have been a symbol of beauty and purity. Today, they are regarded as both classic and contemporary, coming in many more fashionable styles than your grandmother’s traditional strand of pearls.

Akoya

Pinctada fucata

(Akoya pearl oyster)

Akoya cultured pearls are the most familiar type of saltwater cultured pearl to most people in the U.S and other western markets. Many customers think of white or cream colored akoyas as the classic pearl used for jewelry, especially single-strand necklaces.

Japan and China both produce akoya cultured pearls.

• Size: Generally between 3-7mm but

can occasionally reach 9-10mm

South Sea

White & Golden South Sea pearls are loved for their beautiful color. These rare gems are produced by the Pinctada Maxima oyster, found in very deep waters of Australia, Indonesia, and the Philippines are leading sources of these saltwater cultured pearls. South Sea cultured pearls can be white to silver or golden, depending on the type of oyster. Their large size and thick nacre, due to a long growth period, plus their limited critical growing conditions are all factors contributing to their value.

White South Sea pearls are commonly found off the shores of Australia and are typically creamy white in color with a silver overtone. High quality golden South Sea pearls are usually found in the Philippines and include a wide variation of shades of light to dark golden colors.

Fresh Water

Freshwater pearls are created through implanting molluscs with solely tissue and no bead. This results in a pearl made entirely of nacreous layers and gives them a beautiful lustre and durable surface that will not crack or peel open to reveal an inner bead. Freshwater pearls come in a diverse range of natural colours ranging from white through to cream, pink, peach, rose, lavender and purple. Freshwater pearls can also be found dyed in a variety of fashion colours. These pearls offer a beautiful lustrous finish at a fraction of the cost of Akoya pearls and smaller South Sea Pearls.

Tahitian

Tahitian Pearls come from the warm pristine waters around Tahiti and several other French Polynesian islands. The pearl is produced by the black-lipped oyster and are the only pearl to achieve a naturally black body colour and are typically very large, ranging in size from 7mm to 20mm. Whilst often named the ‘black pearl’, Tahitian pearls are actually found in a wide range of colours ranging through grey, silver, blue and purple. Our Tahitian pearls come to you straight from nature in their purest form.

Mabe

Mabe pearls are created on the inside of the mollusc shell rather than inside the tissue. The pearl is made by gluing hemispherical plastic beads to the inside of the shells, which are then cut away. The unique nacre of the mabe oyster allows for brilliant rainbow-like hues as well as superior lustre.

Edison Pearls

Edison pearls are a type of cultured pearl that are grown using advanced technology developed by the Chinese company Zhuji Pearls. Unlike other cultured pearls, which are grown by inserting a small bead or piece of tissue into an oyster, Edison pearls are grown by inserting a small bead into a freshwater mussel. The mussel then begins to secrete nacre around the bead, creating a pearl.

Edison pearls are known for their large size, bright luster, and unique colors, which range from metallic gold and bronze to deep purples and greens. Because they are grown using a different technique than other cultured pearls, they are considered to be some of the highest-quality freshwater pearls available.

Although Edison pearls are relatively new to the market, they have quickly gained popularity among pearl enthusiasts and jewelry designers for their beauty and versatility. They can be used in a variety of jewellery designs, from classic pearl necklaces to modern, edgy pieces.

Pearl Care

Pearls are organic gemstones that are vulnerable to acid, alkaline and extremes of humidity. To preserve your pearls' radiance, avoid letting them come into contact with cosmetics, hair spray, or perfume. Always put on your jewelry as a final touch, after applying make-up and styling hair.

The pearl's lustre can also be harmed by perspiration. To prevent this, before returning your pearls to the jewelry box, wipe them gently with a soft cloth.

We recommended having your pearls checked every year to ensure the thread has not stretched or deteriorated.

We offer rethreading services & welcome you call in store for your free quote & check.
